Overview
Kathryn Lasky - Born in Africa and kidnapped by slave traders, Phillis Wheatley was sold to a wealthy family in Boston who treated her well. She learned to read and write, unlawful for a slave. When she was fourteen she wrote her first poem. People loved her poems, and by the time she was seventeen she was famous.
